TRANSPARENT

This project was carried out in 2018 in Indonesia and focuses on the world's only community of Shinta Ratri, which welcomes gay, lesbian, bisexual, but primarily transgender Muslims in Yogyakarta on the island of Java.

Through the photographs, the aim is to highlight the duality between faith and being transgender. The deeply rooted and inherently strong Islamic faith in their souls and mental conceptions; on the other hand, being transgender and being accepted as such, entails various discriminations and criticisms in a social context that is not yet fully ready.

Hence, the paired photographs represent the purest essence of their being, especially in their daily intimacy, in contrast to their second identity within the Muslim religion.
